Gemma is undercover, trying to figure out who is stealing large amounts of tearstone from one of the Ripley royal mines when she encounters Prince Leonidas Morricone of Mortaher mortal enemy. This was a fast, fun fantasy about Gemma Ripley, most well known as the pampered princess of the Kingdom of Andvari—a reputation which serves to hide the fact Gemma actually has powerful magic & works as a spy. While on a mission she runs into a mortal enemy & things get complicated…as they always do. They have to work together, if they can, to survive what comes next. It‘s a familiar story…with the bonus of a pet gargoyle! Entertaining enough.

This is Rex with my book. When I started this book I did not think I would like it. I did indeed like it and have preordered the next in the series being released in May. Magic, gargoyles, royalty, torture, romance! This book has all that and more.

GondorGirl Rex is beautiful! 😻 2y

Mehso-so

Filled with YA tropes but still over all a fun read. Looking forward to the second one next year! Thank you Goodreads for picking me as a winner of this book!

An entertaining new series, which is a spin off of the Crown of Shards series. You can read this without reading that series, but I definitely recommend it. Great world building, though the main character‘s hatred of male protagonist is a touch frustrating. I did enjoy though and will continue the series. 4⭐️
