Hawaii author Chris McKinneys first entry in a brilliant new sci-fi noir trilogy explores the sordid past of a murdered scientist, deified in death, through the eyes of a man who once committed unspeakable crimes for her. 2150: An unnamed police detective receives a message from Akira Kimura, the preeminent scientist and living legend who vanquished a world-ending meteor thirty years ago. As Akiras former head of securityand perhaps her only friendhe is one of the few who knows of the sacrifices that were necessary for her to complete Ascalon, the cosmic ray that neutralized the global threat. Ascalon's Scar remains emblazoned in the sky, a permanent reminder of humanitys close call with extinction. When he arrives at Akiras home and finds her methodically dismembered, he must dig into their shared pastwith the help of a mysterious synesthesia that no one else knows he hasto find her killer. Through a future of underwater cities, floating suburbs, skin-dyed teenagers, and a wealth gap that has outlived a near-apocalypse, McKinney's cinematic novel is the perfect blend of dark cyberpunk and thrilling detective procedural, all while posing the ultimate question of what we are willing to sacrifice to engineer the world we want.

I'm a day late but didn't want to miss out on the fun! 😁 It would take me FOREVER to try and put together all my fave covers so here are a few recent favorites! I've especially been in love with the redesigned Lunar Chronicles covers and the redesigned ACOTAR covers. Apparently my aesthetic is bright, colorful, and preferably containing dragons! 😂📚🐉

RaeLovesToRead Also I've not heard of Midnight Water City but it looks like my beloved Rapture from Bioshock games ❤ 2y
Branwen @RaeLovesToRead The Priory of the Orange Tree is hands down one of my favorite fantasy books of all time! So much dragon awesomeness and girl power moments! 🐉 2y
Branwen @RaeLovesToRead I've never played Bioshock! 😲 I have to admit while reading this (it's a futuristic sci-fi police murder mystery) I kept closing the book yo stare at the cover! 🤣😂 I absolutely love it! 2y

An enjoyable sci-fi neo-noir story that took a few different twists and turns I did not expect. A great book if you like mysteries and futuristic stories without a heavy hand on the sci fi aspects.

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 183.
