This autobiography is a fun read, taking in his childhood in post-war Manchester, first steps in showbiz thanks to the legendary Bernard Manning's Embassy Club. ('They've no use for poets here lad, half of them can't fucking read'.) and sudden success with the coming of punk in 1977.
Full of great one-liners: "I have often been compared to Bob Dylan - 'Compared to Bob Dylan you're not very good.' Hilarious.
