This book tells a story of magic, adoption, asian culture and adventure. We follow our main character, and non magic human in a world of magic witches, including everyone else i. her family. After her sister performs a spell to share her magic, our main character must go on a journey to prove herself.

Do like Riley and her desire to be included in her magic family of Gom witches, her having no magic. There was so much going on back and forth, mystery wise, that the book could‘ve used either less or be longer. I liked this passage, thou it felt out of place for Riley since she‘s not an angry person. She holds back all emotions. Wish it connected more, her wanting to get out there. End felt thrown in the air; where does it land?

Another winning title from the Rick Riordan Presents imprint. I love these books, the opportunities given to a truly diverse group of authors who write stories inspired by cultures & traditions from around the world. Kim‘s MG debut stars Riley Oh, a girl with no magic, & her sister who is about to be initiated into the Gom clan—“a powerful lineage of Korean healing witches.” Of course unexpected things happen. A fun story with great characters.

The end of this book read like a bad soap opera. There were so many twists of who murdered who and who betrayed who that I just wanted to roll my eyes at how fast they forgave their former suspects. I felt like the author didn‘t understand that teenagers (at least the ones I know) don‘t say OMG or totes or def no anymore. But still, I enjoyed the plot and even though I don‘t really like the writing I‘m doing to read the next one. 2.5⭐️

"I'm pretty sure it's the nectar Eomma gets from her Tokki supplier in New York. The infuser supposedly sources it from some old Greek dudes who work out of the Empire State Building, and the stuff really works. Took a sip once after I fell off my bike, and my cuts and bruises healed like they were never there."

I SEE YOU, PERCY JACKSON REFERENCE! ???

FINALLY starting the newest Rick Riordan Presents book! This one looks like it will feature Korean mythology! 🦊 I have super high hopes for this one! Will it surpass my very favorite RRP book, Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky? We shall see! 😏💕📚

3.5 Stars
This Korean tale's mythology merged nicely with the modern day backdrop. It was a quick, entertaining, jaunt through Cali that had a very relaxed vibe with laid back, modern dialogue. Then there was the foooood! There was a whole lot of eating going on and this foodie appreciated all of the enticing shout outs to yummy cuisine.
Overall: This is a fun, clean, magical adventure suited for all ages.
