A Life on Our Planet
A Life on Our Planet: My Witness Statement and a Vision for the Future | David Attenborough
See the world. Then make it better. 'I am 93. I've had an extraordinary life. It's only now that I appreciate how extraordinary. As a young man, I felt I was out there in the wild, experiencing the untouched natural world - but it was an illusion. The tragedy of our time has been happening all around us, barely noticeable from day to day - the loss of our planet's wild places, its biodiversity. I have been witness to this decline. A Life on Our Planet is my witness statement, and my vision for the future. It is the story of how we came to make this, our greatest mistake - and how, if we act now, we can yet put it right. We have one final chance to create the perfect home for ourselves and restore the wonderful world we inherited.' All we need is the will do so.

#currentlyreading Life on out Planet by David Attenborough
I found myself nodding along to everything and I was surprised I knew a lot of what he was talking about since becoming a TA, its surprising how much you actually relearn.
He does make you very angry/ frustrated about how damaging we as humans are.

David Attenborough is an amazing man, who has lived a rich and fulfilling life. His mission, raise awareness of the Earth's incredible diversity, and sound the alarm over how mankind is harming the fragile environment. He's not an alarmist, but puts forth, with scientific evidence, how we got to our present crisis situation and ways we can fix it. He's also an excellent narrator. 4 🌎🌎🌎🌎 1/2

Sigh, I love this man! Honestly, I went into this thinking it would be his biography, but instead it is a primer on climate change and the effects on the natural world. My heart is broken every day thinking about what humans have done to the planet and how we can get ourselves out of this mess. Attenborough does a great job of explaining what‘s wrong and how we could fix it in simple terms. His voice is perfection; I listened to the audiobook ⬇️

Chelsea.Poole ...and highly recommend it. I was taken back to his many nature documentaries 🥰🌎 I have recently read the tagged and this pairs perfectly with it. 3y
RamsFan1963 I'm looking forward to reading this, I have it on hold currently 5th in line. I've already read How to Avoid a Climate Disaster. 3y
aa_guer2021 Love the man, but haven‘t read a book by him yet! 😱 Stacked and 🙏🏻❤️ 3y

I received this as an ARC from Ebury/NetGalley a couple of months back, & devoured it immediately, but for some reason never reviewed it. I think I wanted a little time to think on it and, in all seriousness, I need to go back and read it again more slowly.

Sir David looks back on his career, giving us witness statements of was happening on the planet at each stage, the population, the rising CO2 levels. It‘s a very effective look at

rockpools our world over the last 80 years, and I could feel my stress levels rising as he lays out the facts and figures at the start of each chapter.

The final section looks at the actions we (together, and as individuals) can take to make a difference, to pull things back. He highlights hope, innovation and technologies coming from

rockpools the developing world, and demonstrates his belief that it‘s not too late to make a difference.

It has changed how I think about certain things, how I go about certain purchases, and I plan to find a print copy to revisit.

squirrelbrain I love it when you really need to buy a print copy of an ARC ❤️ 3y

I bought this yesterday from Libro.fm! And in doing so, I also got to pick a free audiobook. I picked The Power of Ritual by Casper Ter Kulie.
So excited to be supporting my local indie bookstore!

Good morning Litsy. Happy Weekend! Another #CYOreadathon day for me!

#NetGalley & #Ebury have trusted me with an ARC of David Attenborough‘s new book, which came out a couple of days ago. The first part comprises ‘witness statements‘ from key years in his life, a sort of combined autobiography and human history on key themes - all very readable, but I can feel the stress rising as you see carbon figures rising and wilderness percentages falling.

TrishB I know that stress. Daughter doing physical geography degree and tells me everyday, just wish she‘d hurry up and save the world!! 3y
rockpools @TrishB I didn‘t realise she was doing geography 💚🌍- hope she‘s doing well. The blurb promises me a hopeful bit at the end - I‘ll let you know! 3y
TrishB I‘m all for the hope! 3y
