One Year at Ellsmere | Faith Erin Hicks

With revamped art and now in full color, One Year at Ellsmere is an endearingand surprisingmiddle-grade friendship story from beloved author Faith Erin Hicks! Was boarding school supposed to be this hard? When studious thirteen-year-old Juniper wins a scholarship to the prestigious Ellsmere Academy, she expects to find a scholastic utopia. But living at Ellsmere is far from ideal: She is labeled a special project, Ellsmere's queen bee is out to destroy her, and its rumored that a mythical beast roams the forest next to the school.

A cute little middle grade story of friendship at a boarding school. Only mild conflict between characters that gets resolved rather easily.

I love everything Faith Erin Hicks does, this was no exception. Magical mystery set in some kind of a school books are like a whole obsession for me (see A Deadly Education, Magic for Liars, Carry on, Ninth House) and it was super fun to have one in graphic novel form. More please! 😍🦄 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A taste of the reworking Hicks did to rerelease her graphic novel, reinked and colored. A snazzy upgrade for a great story.

The first scholarship student to attend prestigious Ellsmere Academy, Juniper doesn‘t know what to expect but she is excited for the new school year. What follows is a pretty standard story—a new student from a disadvantaged background trying to fit into a world of wealth & privilege, & the friends & enemies she makes along the way—which is nevertheless fun & enjoyable because the art, as expected in a Hicks book, is delightful.
