Heading to Minneapolis tomorrow-we'll be staying downtown. I've never been. Any must-see bookstores or bookish things to do? I plan to go see the outdoor sculpture museum and Paisley Park for sure!

vivastory Magers & Quinn in uptown (a great area to explore) Enjoy! This is really the greatest time to visit. 7y
vivastory I should mention uptown is really close to Walker Also the Minneapolis Institute of Art is fantastic (i actually like it more than Walker) 7y
AnnieReads If you like mysteries, Once Upon a Crime is a must. It's located in Uptown which is an easy 10 minute drive from downtown. Also Uncle Edgar's is another mystery bookstore with an attached science fiction store called Uncle Hugo's. Wild Rumpus is a most excellent children's bookstore located in South Minneapolis. Magers & Quinn in Uptown is also a great bookstore. In St. Paul is Common Good Books owned by Garrison Keillor. (edited) 7y

vivastory @AnnieReads Where is Uncle Edgar's located? The coffee shop next to Wild Rumpus is amazing! 7y
EllieDottie Louise Erdrich's bookstore Birchbark books in Minneapolis as well! 7y
AnnieReads @vivastory Uncle Edgar's is on Chicago Ave. Across from the Midtown Global Market. There's free parking on the side on Saturdays and Sundays and after noon on Fridays. Otherwise, there are parking meters in front of the store. They have new and used books and the used book selection is absolutely insane. (edited) 7y
Julsmarshall Thanks so much, @vivastory @AnnieReads and @EllieDottie ! Definitely going to stop in at a couple of these! 7y
vivastory @AnnieReads I lived in Minneapolis for four years (2009-2013) & there's bookstores I never visited. I decided to first live in uptown based off of how impressed i was by magers & quinn (& burger jones). I need to go back & revisit my favorite spots & go to all of the stores I never visited! 7y
AnnieReads @vivastory I moved to Lyn-Lake in 2009 and what I loved most was the walking and biking proximity to so many bookstores. Once Upon a Crime was a favorite of mine long before my move to Minneapolis. The store is on the bottom floor of a brownstone apartment building. You have to walk downstairs to get to it. It's a perfect setting for mysteries. They also have an annex down the hall with oodles of collectible editions. 7y
vivastory @AnnieReads Once Upon a Crime is definitely on my list of stores to visit. Have you been to the Barnes & Noble across from the Rosedale Center? They have a used book section that is pretty well-stocked. 7y
AnnieReads @vivastory Is that the one by Chianti Grill? I've been to that one and it's a huge store. I'm still grieving over the closing of the Barnes & Noble in downtown Minneapolis. 7y
vivastory @AnnieReads Yes, i believe it is next to Chianti grill. There is also a half price books only a few minutes away. I was living in Minneapolis when Borders closed. I liked the one in Rosedale. I never visited the downtown b&n. I found it sad that the b&n in Mall of America was one of the least impressive stores there. I also really enjoyed Book House in dinkytown (even though parking is a hassle) 7y
moranadatter Seconding the recommendations for Uncle Hugo's/Uncle Edgar's and Birchbark Books. (edited) 7y
