3 posts | 1 read | 1 reading
When it comes to readers who need the most support, teachers can't afford to waste time using fragmented, skill-and-drill interventions that don't work. Literacy specialists Stephanie Harvey and Annie Ward demonstrate how to "table the labels" and use detailed formative assessments to craft targeted, personalized instruction that enable striving readers to do what they need above all - to find books they love and engage in voluminous reading. Loaded with ready-to-go lessons, routines, and "actions," as well as the latest research, this book is a must for any teacher who strives to make every reader a thriving reader.

Pickpick

I finished the last few chapters of this book tonight. Overall, I appreciated what it had to say and will definitely refer back to it for some specific suggestions and resources. It references many other helpful sources and includes specific strategies to help put a real focus on authentic reading in your classroom. As a junior high teacher, it felt somewhat elementary focused, but still beneficial.

TheAromaofBooks Yes!! This is exactly how we grew up!! It also went the other way - I don't remember Mom ever telling us that a book was “too hard“ - if she felt like we could handle it emotionally, she would help us read through it/discuss it, even if it was technically above our reading level. 4y

#TeachersOfLitsy I'm participating in this virtual book study through a Facebook group and thought I would share the information. It seems to be geared more towards elementary, but as a middle school teacher I think it will be worthwhile. The book has a Goodreads rating of 4.5.
