Fun and scary! I admit I am easily scared 🙃 so take that into consideration.

I would describe it as a horror mystery ghost story with a new twist. I figured a couple of things out early on, but not everything, so that kept me interested.

The Shirley Jackson inspo vibes are high. 👍🏾

This book has all the elements of a successful paranormal book for me – it is set in a decaying mansion filled with ghosts and features a creepy ghost child. I enjoyed the way the house became a character and how the ghosts show the “memories” of the house. Unfortunately, I found it overly descriptive, thought there were too many storylines and “spooky” tropes thrown in just because, and was left completely unsatisfied by the ending

This haunted house mystery has a few creepy moments-& definitely an interesting concept with the house itself being rather divorced from time- but with overly florid language, the pacing suffers. The characters never really develop either (and yes, may have been initially hooked by the character names- there‘s an Elizabeth Wakefield!) But not a twin...and the Wakefields of Shadydale, Virginia have a much more morose saga. It did keep my attention!
