Fly Away Home: A Novel | Jennifer Weiner

Sometimes all you can do is fly away home . . . When Sylvie Serfer met Richard Woodruff in law school, she had wild curls, wide hips, and lots of opinions. Decades later, Sylvie has remade herself as the ideal politician’s wife—her hair dyed and straightened, her hippie-chick wardrobe replaced by tailored knit suits. At fifty-seven, she ruefully acknowledges that her job is staying twenty pounds thinner than she was in her twenties and tending to her husband, the senator. Lizzie, the Woodruffs’ younger daughter, is at twenty-four a recovering addict, whose mantra HALT (Hungry? Angry? Lonely? Tired?) helps her keep her life under control. Still, trouble always seems to find her. Her older sister, Diana, an emergency room physician, has everything Lizzie failed to achieve—a husband, a young son, the perfect home—and yet she’s trapped in a loveless marriage. With temptation waiting in one of the ER’s exam rooms, she finds herself craving more. After Richard’s extramarital affair makes headlines, the three women are drawn into the painful glare of the national spotlight. Once the press conference is over, each is forced to reconsider her life, who she is and who she is meant to be. Written with an irresistible blend of heartbreak and hilarity, Fly Away Home is an unforgettable story of a mother and two daughters who after a lifetime of distance finally learn to find refuge in one another.

Pickpick

I love Jennifer Weiner so much. I‘m really never disappointed in anything she writes. This was a really well crafted book about family and secrets and not passing judgment on situations when you aren‘t in them. I thought this book had a lot to offer in forgiveness and moving on and forward in life and I loved the characters and the writing. It‘s a bit long, but worth the read.

BooksNBowls I love her too! I haven‘t read this one yet but it‘s on my night stand!! 2y
Victoriahoperose @BooksNBowls I love her so much! This one was really good. Every time I pick up a book by her I always instantly get into it and remember why I loved reading her books. I do think part of it for me is that I live in Philly and it‘s cool to read about a place you live lol. 2y
BooksNBowls @Victoriahoperose Good in Bed is my favorite Im still working through all of her books! Glad you enjoyed this one I‘m looking forward to it! 2y
Victoriahoperose @BooksNBowls I love that one too. I think my favorite is probably Goodnight Nobody or In Her Shoes but I also loved Big Summer. It‘s so hard to choose. I can‘t wait to see what you think of this one when you get to it 😊 2y

Happy hour reading beats any other type of reading... except maybe water view reading. Just started Fly Away Home last night.

After all their years together, they shared a common dialect, the language of the marriage, shorthand references, the abbreviations and bits of shtick they‘d do.

My hometown library knows what's up. Last line reads: "You are the reason we are here."

Eyelit That's really cool 8y

"Yes," she murmured, "I have a baking need."

I bought this in hard back recently because I thought I'd never read it. Then I was strolling through my audible account and apparently I listened to it 4 YEARS ago. I do not recall at all. 😳 I am enjoying I though.
