This story might be harder to keep young children‘s attention. I would use it in an older class setting.

This story helps depict women‘s rights in history and how they were treated compared to men in the account of a little girl and the obstacles she faced. It also uses historical language and phrases throughout to set the tone and time period for children.

“Seeing that she could not put her ballot in the box, Mrs. Stanton flung it at the hand covering the slot, saying, 'I have the same right to vote that any man here has.' “

I would use this book in my classroom because I feel like the women's suffrage movement is not discussed as much so it would shed light on the battle that women faced. It had a great symbol as well as far as the horse jumping the fence and at the end of the book the little girl was able to do it because she set her mind to it.

The Ballot Box Battle written by Emily Arnold McCully. Tells the story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton who is fighting for women's right to vote. The story is interesting in its own right and balances facts with fiction enough so that it depicts history correctly.

This is a great book to read to a classroom. This book will allow students to realize that everyone in their room wasn‘t always equal. They will realize that some of the children in their class wouldn‘t have been in the class if it wasn‘t for people like Elizabeth Cady Stanton

This story tells a fictional tale of Elizabeth Cady Stanton telling her life story to Cordelia, a girl in the neighborhood. It teaches girls to be brave like Ms. Stanton. The biography at the end gives more background, but the book does a wonderful job on their own giving the reader anger behind what Stanton had to experience. This is a wonderful story that promotes girl power.

This book can help lead to a discussion about gender biases and how the world sometimes sees men and women.

The Ballot Box Battle by Emily Arnold McCully was published in 1996. The book is about a young girl and an older woman who fight for their right to vote. They get mocked by men, judged by men and told no by men but they continue to argue. They explain that woman can do anything men can do!

“Something inside Cordelia snapped. She threw herself onto old Jule and gave her a good kick. The boys barely managed to scramble out of the way. She galloped up the street.”

This was super interesting and inspiring! It‘s nice to see the children‘s books about women‘s suffrage! This book would be great for all children when talking about the topic of voting rights.

The Ballot Box Battle by Emily Arnold McCully is a piece of historical fiction. It was published in 1996. This story is about Cordelia who has a woman neighbor who is fighting hard for the woman‘s suffrage movement. When Election Day comes Cordelia hears stories about her neighbors childhood and is moved to go to the polls with her. At the polls men mock the women and say mean things about why they shouldn‘t vote. She gets on her horse and leaves.

I though, boys are learned and courageous. So, I would study Greek and practice managing a horse! Then I, too, would be learned and courageous, and my father would be glad.

These illustrations bring to life things like faces, landscapes, and even the action scenes which I really enjoyed.

This book is about a young girl's, Cordelia, act of bravery. At first she is not interested about fighting for women's suffrage until her neighbor, Mrs. Stanton tells her a story of her childhood. They both go to the polls in an attempt to vote. This story would be inspiring to today's young girls and boys everywhere.

This historical fiction book is good because it tells a story that effects women. It is authentic in the way of how history played out, and more importantly it gave us insight of how the battle got started. The history is correct and blended with good background as well!

this book is good because it gives children the exposure to how life used to be. They might not of realized that girls used to not be able to vote. Being shown this makes them realize what all we‘ve gone through as a country!
