Felix and Zelda have escaped the train to the death camp, but where do they go now? They're two runaway kids in Nazi-occupied Poland. Danger lies at every turn of the road. With the help of a woman named Genia and their active imaginations, Felix and Zelda find a new home and begin to heal, forming a new family together. But can it last? Morris Gleitzman's winning characters will tug at readers' hearts as they struggle to survive in the harsh political climate of Poland in 1942. Their lives are difficult, but they always remember what matters: family, love, and hope.

Just finished this book with my 11 yr old
This is the 2nd book in a series by Morris Gleitzman, set during WW2.
Felix & Zelda are living with a kind woman on a farm using false names to survive the Nazi's.
Constantly in jeopardy of their true identities being revealed the 2 children stick together & become very close during this very risky & scary time
Protected by the woman, they live through the year with her.
The ending took me by surprise!

This book was really good. It is about a little Jewish boy and girl who are hiding from the Nazis mid 1940s who take refugee in a woman's house. The a problem I had with this book is the pacing is extremely slow and not much happens right away. Another problem I had was with the ending it was extremely sad but that couldn't take away the fact that it was very sloppy and nonsensical. Besides the negatives it's a great look into the Holocaust.

Oh goodness....this sequel to ‘Once‘ didn‘t disappoint. It was harrowing in places and sad, but also touched on friendship, family and love. I just love the ten year old character Felix. I‘m going to have to read the next one.

An endearing main character. The power of stories to protect and remember. Can‘t wait to see what happens next. Already placed the next in the series on hold.

Highly recommend this #middlegrade series set during the #Holocaust.

#NewHogwartsAdventure Day 18: In this book, the reader follows the story of Felix and Zelda who escaped from a Nazi army truck that would lead them directly to the gas chamber. Zelda manifested self-loathing because her father was a Nazi soldier as attested in the #Locket that she kept from her old life. I felt that the protagonists are making a lot of unwise choices, no matter how heroic they seem to be. My full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-8gk
