Butterflies on the First Day of School
Butterflies on the First Day of School | Annie Silvestro
2 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
Rosie's excited to start kindergarten--she's had her backpack ready for weeks. But suddenly, the night before the big day, her tummy hurts. Rosie's mom reassures her that it's just butterflies in her belly. Much to Rosie's surprise, when she greets a new friend, a butterfly flies out of her mouth! Soon, Rosie frees all her butterflies . . . and helps another shy student release hers, too.

Butterflies on the First Day of School by Annie Silvestro and illustrated by Dream Chen is an MF. It's about a girl who's starting kindergarten and even though she's excited, the closer it comes the more nervous she gets. Her mother tries to reassure her by telling her it's butterflies, which Rosie takes literally. Every time she talks or does activities with her classmates, butterflies come out of her mouth and she feels better.#UCFLAE3414SP20

Agavitt1 This is good for RA, especially useful on a student's first day of school. Similar to First Day Jitters, it shows students that it's common to be nervous on the first day, and there are ways to get over these nerves. https://www.fantasticfunandlearning.com/first-day-school-books.html This source includes a lot of different activities to do with students for the first few days of school to get them comfortable. 4y
Agavitt1 UDL Principle 8.3 Foster collaboration and community: Having students work in groups doing this to create relationships with each other. ESOL strategy 16 Integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activities. Students working on these first-day activities will utilize all of these strategies. 4y
DrSpalding I may have to buy this book! It does remind me of the one I read to you all the first time we met, as you stated above. Sounds like an excellent read aloud for the first week of school. 4y
