Emma Donoghue's debut tells the story of young, sheltered Mariah who ends up rooming with two older women and gradually discovering something about herself as she figures out their relationship. It's not perfect in terms of writing and some of the characterisation is a bit sloppy, but it's an interesting and tender lesbian coming-of-age novel set in 90s Ireland. #girlfriends! #AndItsAugust @RealLifeReading
