Another book with another homemade cappuccino.

I thought I might really dig into CLYDE FANS today, but while it‘s very well done, it‘s so oppressive that I think I‘m better off reading a section here and there, like I‘ve been doing so far.

An ambitious, insightful, sophisticated, layered, existential masterpiece. More superlatives on my blog: https://lindypratch.blogspot.com/2020/09/clyde-fans-by-seth.html?m=1

… the tastes of a solid but clever early 20th century Ontario lady. But tastes that allowed a tightly controlled kind of daydreaming.

I fully anticipate finding this on the #Giller shortlist. I was fully taken in by this "novel in pictures". The first year a graphic novel is eligible this was a full and satisfying book. The black, grey and blue colouring only enhanced the melancholy story.

Lindy I agree. It does deserve a place on the shortlist. 👍 4y

My #ShadowGiller reading for right now.

I wasn't sure about starting Clyde Fans, thought I might wait to see if it was shortlisted. But once I started reading I find I've been pulled right in.

Only 6% of the way through Polar Vortex. I'm reading that when I'm in bed and can't hold up the beast that is Clyde Fans. 😚😚

Author Seth has created a town called Dominion that shows up in many of his books. The National Film Board of Canada has even made a documentary called Seth‘s Dominion.

Lindy Clyde Fans is an understated masterpiece. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 4y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @Lindy I've been hearing nothing but great things about it! Looking forward to starting it. 4y

Anyhow, my point: persistence can pay off. But, of course, it must be balanced with the ability to think on your feet.

June 2019 wrap-up: 18 books read.
Fave book: Clyde Fans, by Seth
Least fave book: The Mayor of Côte St. Paul, by Ronald J. Cooke.
(And oddly enough, both of these are #CanLit!)

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Lots of great reads there, well done! 💖📖💖 5y
rabbitprincess @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Thanks, it was a much better reading month! Got my reading mojo back 😎 5y

This is a breathtaking book. The blue and black and beige colour scheme makes the story feel especially melancholy, and the pacing is measured and gives the story room to breathe. Very well done indeed.

This is a breathtaking, melancholy book. Seth spent 20 years working on it!

This page, where Simon Matchcard is looking after his mother, really hit home. Reminded me of my grandpa 😥

This book is a brick! I am definitely intrigued. Requested from the library on spec because it's Seth.
