The Ironwood Tree
The Ironwood Tree | Holly Black, Tony DiTerlizzi
2 posts | 36 read | 1 to read
Mystery, madness and mayhem are afoot in the penultimate book in the bestselling Spiderwick Chronicles. First a pack vile, smelly goblins snatch Simon. Then a band of elves try to entrap Jared. Why is the entire faerie world so eager to get their hands on Arthur Spiderwick's Guide? And now that the Guide has mysteriously disappeared, will the Grace kids finally be left alone? Don't count on it! At school, someone is running around pretending to be Jared, and it's not his twin, Simon. To make matters worse, now Mallory has disappeared and something foul in the water is killing off all the plants and animals for miles around. Clues point to the old abandoned quarry, just outside of town, where there is news that a creature with plans to rule the world has offered them a gift to join with him

My little brother wants to read more "mystical" books after we finish The Spiderwick Chronicles. Sort of in the same as Tolkien and CS Lewis. He likes fanciful creatures and adventure. Any recommendations? (PS, we've decided A Wrinkle in Time is more science and less fantasy, so while we will be reading it at some point, just not quite yet.)

mom2bugnbee How old is he? Old enough for middle grade books? If so, what about the Percy Jackson series? They're mythology-based, so not exactly the same, but they're wonderful. 7y
mom2bugnbee And, again, if he is old enough for middle grade books, the Artemis Fowl series is also fabulous. And if he's a bit younger, my daughter read The Sisters Grimm series in 4th & 5th grade & loved them (a boy would like them as well). 7y
levi @mom2bugnbee he is 8. I'm not sure if Percy would be a good choice for him though... 7y
