Pickpick

The first quarter of this book was so slow and uneventful, but then suddenly the pace sped up and the main plot began to make more sense. I ended up thoroughly enjoying this book, the atmosphere was very eerie and kind of scary how similar it is to current events. I loved the characters, but Araby was just a little bit plain for me. I enjoyed the love triangle, and am looking forward to seeing where it goes, and overall I really liked it.

Heading off on my #TBRcleanup quest with a very nutritious breakfast and this book. The only things I know about it are that it's a YA standalone based on the Poe story of the same name.

I managed to count how many unread books I have on my Kobo before starting on this quest. The total is 498. How did it get to this point? I need an intervention. #readitandeat

Melissa_J What's the point of having a Kobo full of books you've already read? 🤣 7y

Cleaning off my shelves and packing up my bags to take to 2nd & Charles some time soon! I'm trying to only keep books I plan to read or have really enjoyed. It's surprisingly liberating getting rid of books, especially when I can go trade them in for things I'd much rather have!

This is book is fairly entertaining, but there isn't much in it to rave about. It's a solid story with fairly interesting characters, even if the main character is a bit too naive for my liking. It falls into the same basic tropes I associate with YA novels from this time: love triangle, corrupt government, and rebelling factions. I'm interested in the sequel, but I'm not actively recommending it to people.

YA Audio Why does every YA have to have a love triangle and the inevitable betrayal. I cannot understand why authors consistently create a "strong" female lead who always has to have a romantic angle and a complete inability to communicate with all actions predicated on not upsetting parents or boys or bad guys. Strong females say F the establishment and don't apologize. Wonderful premise. Tragically killed by the monotony of the genre.

when your kid asks if you have read any good YA books lately and asks you to pick one (really?!?) ... 20 books later ... and a great excuse for new ones :)

People live in fear of catching the plague. The masks that can protect people are too expensive for all but the extremely wealthy to afford. Araby's father invented the masks but now Prince Prosperous controls their production. Forces in the city want to change that. Araby gets tangled in the rebellion and she doesn't know who to trust. This book was ok, it ended suddenly though. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
