Breakfast at Tiffany's and Other Voices, Other Rooms
Breakfast at Tiffany's and Other Voices, Other Rooms | Truman Capote
The hillbilly-turned-Manhattanite at the center of Breakfast at Tiffany's shares not only the author's philosophy of freedom but also his fears and anxieties. Other Voices, Other Rooms begins as thirteen-year-old Joel Knox, after losing his mother, is sent from New Orleans to rural Alabama to live with his estranged father--who is nowhere to be found.

Pickpick

The movie version is maybe more a #fairytaleofNY than the novella. I love both actually. The book is more gritty and there‘s no romance between Paul and Holly, just friendship.

#WinterWonderland

TrishB Good pick 👍🏻 5y
CarolynM Excellent choice. I agree, the story and the film are both enjoyable on their own terms. 5y
Cinfhen Definitely need to read!!! 5y

Honestly not sure how I feel about this one. There were glaring elements I hated (the narrating attitude about women and race especially), but things that I think are worth looking at like child “marriage” in the US and calling a girl who‘d been raped repeatedly as a pre teen a “whore.” It‘s a solid and deserved slap in the face for anyone inclined to idealize the period.

MinetteLauren I read this one about a year ago. It was so different than the movie! It‘s one book where I liked the movie better! The thing about movies and books before a certain time period, is that they might all be a little unfair toward women. Think about the bodice rippers of the 80‘s and all those James Bond movies where he slaps the girl😦 Gigi was always one of my favorite movies, but I have to think about it in a different context to watch it today. 6y
Purrsistently SO true. I feel the same about Gigi. I loved it the first time I saw it (or Love in the Afternoon) but it turns my stomach a bit now. 6y

I'm so excited! I ordered some more Truman Capote books. 📚 He is both a favorite author and celebrity of mine.

Gezemice He is a wonderful writer! 7y
LinaLovesLit @Gezemice Yes, I wish he had lived to write much more. 😔 7y
Gezemice @Attila Philip Seymour Hoffman played him so well - so sad that he does not act any more, too. 😥 7y
LinaLovesLit @Gezemice So true! I love the atmosphere of that movie. One of my friends told me he thought it was boring, but I thought it was an art piece. 7y
Gezemice @Attila Boring? It was amazing! 7y

"Good luck, and believe me, dearest Doc -- it's better to look at the sky than live there. Such a empty place; so vague. Just a country where the thunder goes and things disappear." #favoritequote #riotgrams #februaryphotochallenge #daytwentyfive
