Four girls with the power to control the elements and save the world from a terrible evil must come together in the first epic novel in a brand-new series. When Phantomsmassive beasts made from nightmares and darknesssuddenly appeared and began terrorizing the world, four girls, the Effigies, each gained a unique power to control one of the classical elements: earth, air, fire, and water. Since then, four girls across the world have continually fought against the Phantoms, fulfilling their cosmic duty. And when one Effigy dies, another girl gains her power as a replacement. But now, with technologies in place to protect the worlds major cities from Phantom attacks, the Effigies have stopped defending humanity and, instead, have become international celebrities, with their heroic feats ranked, televised, and talked about in online fandoms. Until the day that New York Citys protection against the Phantoms fails, a man seems to be able to control them by sheer force of will, and Maia, a high school student, unexpectedly becomes the Fire Effigy. Now Maia has been thrown into battle with three girls who want nothing to do with one another. But with the first human villain that the girls have ever faced, and an army of Phantoms preparing for attack, there isnt much time for the Effigies to learn how to work together. Can the girls take control of their destinies before the world is destroyed forever?

The best I can do right now is my cat on my lap in front of my bookshelves.

1: mallotto
2: I've had him since he was born (12 years in August)
3: He acts like a dog. Even meets me at the door when I get home and then follows me around meowing until I can pet him.
4: @Jenshootsweddings @drokka

Just finished both of these. I flew through them. A very fun read, but not a huge fan of the main character. She‘s a bit too childish for 16. Super action packed though, I can‘t wait to read the next one.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast paced and a relatively quick read. I like the various characters and the different aspects their personalities brought to the story. I liked the contrast between what is shown in the media and what the characters are actually like and the way in which the author portrayed that. I would love to know more about the effigies talents and phantoms and where it all came from!

So, considering my previous read was a bit of a miss, I am hoping that this lives up to the good things I have heard about it! :-)

When you read a book that mentions a city in your area and they totally say it wrong but you know the way it is said is so people might know where it is....

BookishTrish I'm in North Van. Where are you? 7y

It's been quite awhile since I last posted as I had no room on my phone for any apps with all my music.... new phone with lots more space means that I'm back!!! And of course I went shopping at a book sale for school libraries so here is my haul with series that I'm starting and series that I couldn't help but continue!

This is so much fun. The writing isn't technically the greatest, but I'm really enjoying the worldbuilding!

#CurrentlyReading I heard about this book in the summer so I'm excited that it finally come out. It supposed to be a mixed of Sailor Moon and Pacific Rim so I'm game.

I wanted to be in love with this book--I love kickass adventure stories--but it just needed another dimension to it, to make it better for me. It was just lacking something for me. 3 ⭐️
