Great biography of a American woman who became a African king! Part of her struggles is paying for the funeral of her uncle, the former king.

This book takes place over only a couple years and King Peggy doesn't mess around, she gets stuff done. But it is about more than a secretary from the Ghanian embassy becoming a king and improving the quality of life in her village. Oh the drama! Ghana, who knew?! Secret plotting, theft, sabotage, all kinds of crazy stuff. The book made me very angry at the entitlement and privilege of men, all men used to being in positions of power.

An excellently written book on a unique situation! Found this while browsing the library's biography shelf. An American woman is chosen King of her late Uncle's village in Ghana because the elders think she'll be a pushover. But they are very wrong. This is the story of the first two years of King Peggy's reign, and how she changed the way of life in her village. Loved it.

Cortg I loved this book! It was the perfect audio for a road trip, so funny and super unique! 8y

Great deal right now on this book. My curiosity was peaked by the description. Apparently actor Will Smith has bought the rights and wants to make a movie.

Booksnob I actually read this several years ago to my 9th grade history class. It was memorable and I still think about it. I learned a lot about Ghana. 8y
BellaBookNook @Booksnob That's great! It sounds interesting and I want to read it before they make the movie. 8y
