Pobby and Dingan
Pobby and Dingan | Ben Rice
4 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
This enchanting tale is at once a beautifully rendered narrative of childhood loss and a powerfully simple fable about the necessity of imagination. Pobby and Dingan are Kellyanne Williamson’s best friends, maybe her only friends, and only she can see them. Kellyanne’s brother, Ashmol, can’t see them and doesn’t believe they exist anywhere but in Kellyanne’s immature imagination. Only when Pobby and Dingan disappear and Kellyanne becomes heartsick over their loss does Ashmol realize that not only must he believe in Pobby and Dingan, he must convince others to believe in them, too. From the Trade Paperback edition.

A sweet novella about a boy who has to set aside his disbelief in his sister's imaginary friends and find a way to get others to help find them when they go missing.

I loved this little novella. I don't know how I missed it. For lovers of the imaginary everywhere.

I remembered this little gem set in Australia for #dressesoncovers #readjanuary #childprotagonists. @RealLifeReading

Marchpane I've not read this but it was made into the film Opal Dream which was very sweet. 3y
Kimzey @Marchpane It was very sweet. I'll look for the film. Thanks! 3y
kirriemummy I just loved this. It was small, perfectly formed, and had so much swimming beneath the surface- questions of tolerance, family, love, grief. If I was in charge I would put it on every high school reading list, perhaps as a companion to to kill a mockingbird. 2y
Kimzey @kirriemummy I agree! 2y
