I really enjoyed this short book - it's intelligent, thought provoking & nicely gothic in tone, setting & themes. It reflects on the nature of literary invention/creation with specific regard to the horror genre. Love the narrative voice of the MC, his descent into madness writ large in his phrasing and word choice. The text primarily references Mary Shelley's Frankenstein but the structure also suggests ... cont. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

readingjedi Cont. from above ... A Christmas Carol with the 3 ghosts visiting the MC. The literary analysis of Frankenstein is interesting as is the idea of the book creating the author and created horrors becoming real but the ideas aren't particularly original. Still the creepiness makes it an intriguing read and the ending is very apt if a little obvious. 4w

Just about to start this one. With thanks to #netgalley for this book.

Accompanied by, this Friday evening, Brewdog Punk I.P.A, salt and vinegar Kettle Chips and Alfresco Afternoon Yankee Candle. Nice!

Happy Weekend, my fellow book fiends. Read like your life depends on it!

Cosmos_Moon Ooo, cool! This is on my TBR list. 1mo
xicanti Ooh, I like your accompaniments! 1mo
she.epeolatry I love this cover. Makes me think of the Wendigo from 1) the folklore of the Native American Algonquian tribes and later in 2) Hannibal ( aka the best tv show EVER!) ☠️ (edited) 1mo

she.epeolatry @xicanti You can never go wrong with Salt & Vinegar chips ! Yum 1mo
readingjedi @she.epeolatry Just googled the Wendigo - yes, you're right! Also had to Google Hannibal as I don't watch much TV - and, well, Mads Mikkelsen 😍 1mo
she.epeolatry @readingjedi Yes! I had to stop myself from adding him to my original comment 🤭. I am MAD for Mads. 🤗🤗🤗. The show as a whole is more “moving art” ( versus TV— truly an experience ) and he definitely contributed to that. His take on Hannibal Lector is exceptional. This book sounds very interesting as well. I‘ve added it to my list! 1mo

You know that feeling where you're dreaming but kinda awake too? Yeah, this book felt like being in someone else's mind during that ... essentially, a writer has taken himself to a remote location to try to write another successful book. He contemplates some of literatures great "monsters" with particular attention on Mary Shelley...if you're a 'Frankenstein' fan, give this one a go. A unique exploration of how we become what we create. Fast read!

About 60 pages in and hooked by the unique format -- reads like the notes/inner ramblings of a writer at the moment.

RaimeyGallant That title! So intriguing. 5mo
