Age is just a number Lolito is an unconventional love story about a fifteen-year-old boy who finds solace in the arms of a middle-aged woman on the Internet. Fifteen-year-old Etgar Allison is spending spring break alone in an empty house, when he inadvertently learns that his girlfriend has cheated on him with another boy. Heartbroken and lonely, without parental supervision, he turns to alcohol. Unable to cope with his grief, he looks to the Internet for comfort and lands in an adult chatroom. There he meets Macy, a bored but attractive housewife; flirtatious IMs escalate into cybersex chats and soon Etgar is raiding his savings account for a romantic rendezvous in London. . . What could possibly go wrong? Ben Brookss Lolito is an uncompromising look at the turbulent emotional life of teenage boys, a funny and poignant story that injects raw honestyand even a little tendernessinto its portrait of a taboo relationship.

Panpan

Okay I'm just going to rant now. WTF. I'm so mad at this book because I really wanted to enjoy it but I HATED the MC - I get it, he's an anxious 15yo who likes drinking and girls but there is WAAY too much sex and drugs in this for it to seem minimally realistic. It felt like reading Irvine Welsh but with very mediocre writing. And how many cultural references did the author have to include? The kid likes movies, I get it.

ephemeralwaltz Also, it's full of rape jokes and "paedo" jokes involving his own father for some reason?? It was disgusting. And I LOVE controversial/disturbing reads - this was just plain bad in every way possible. 6y
ephemeralwaltz And let's just ignore the fact that his romance with a middle-aged housewife ends with NO resolution whatsoever after they actually meet up in person. The fact that they have sex is just implied - like the author had run out of sex after writing so much of it before their encounter. God. (edited) 6y
Libby1 Sounds awful! 😬 6y
Kaye Yuk. Sounds like a pretty disgustingly gross book. I‘m always glad to see people be honest about really bad books so that others don‘t waste their money on them 6y

Uuuh... I'm using this as a #palatecleanser for this week's first read but I have to say that I pretty much hate the MC/narrator. I was intrigued about the story but I'm getting ready to "pan" this one... (The sticker is my face while reading it)

Mehso-so

Structurally he did some interesting things. There were some parts that made me literally laugh out loud. There was one part that made me sad. Any piece of art that makes me feel multiple things is good in my eyes. The voice got a little annoying in some parts. But overall not the worst thing I've ever read. More fun to read than anything else !
