It was interesting to learn about life in the kibbutz in the 1950s. I also loved that the focus was on Iraqui Jews. BUT I would have liked to find out more about the parent generation not only the teenagers, who, despite the difficulties, seemed to adapt easier than their parents and had more opportunities and options.

The Italian translation of Scapegoat by Eli Amir is Is this the promised land? I'm starting it today in Italian :)

I‘m really getting into this novel about a young Iraqi Jewish boy who immigrated to Israel with his family in the 1950s. The story presents Nuri‘s experiences being integrated into kibbutz life. I remember very vividly my own experiences trying to cope with living in Israel (albeit not on a kibbutz) and am now reliving in my heart and mind the joys and difficulties of that time, including my first exposure to young Israelis from Arab countries.

SqueakyChu I loved this book! My husband is reading it now. 5y
