Currently reading two awesome books about Girls. #StalinsCows brings the lives of three stonian girls Anna and her eating disorder, her mother Katarina who marries a finish guy (=capitalist) during the cold war, and their grandmother/mother who went through all the hard times during the sovietic leadership.
In #TheGirlInThePhotograph (thanks @batsy), Lygia F. Telles tells the story of three friends who go through Brazilian military dictatorship.

batsy Both sound fascinating! 6y
iporto @batsy they are! (So far at least).. I really wish Lygia Fagundes Telles was as known as Clarice Lispector outside Brazil. She is awesome! 6y
batsy I found the English translation of the book (I hope!) and immediately stacked it thanks to you šŸ™‚ 6y
iporto @batsy yes!! That's it! What a crazy translation of the title lol šŸ˜. I hope you enjoy it! šŸ˜‰ 6y

April TBR. Anxious for my first Sofi Oksanen's book (Stalin's cows). Any thoughts?

Swe_Eva No thoughts, other than it‘s on my TBR as well, so I hope it‘s good. šŸ˜‰ 6y
iporto @LT_eva I'm really into books that go through sovietic era.. So I guess we should read it and exchange opinions šŸ˜€šŸŒø 6y
Swe_Eva @iporto It might be a bit heavy for my current mood, but I need to read it, so I‘ll push it up the ā€œladder.ā€ 6y

iporto Lol. I've always enjoyed heavy books. Maybe that's why I like russian literature so much. Have you read anything by Antony Marra? I think he's a little lighter (but not so much) 6y
SqueakyChu @iporto Oh! A Constellation of Vital Phenomenon!! I was blown away by that book. It was more than I ever wanted to know about #Chechnya, but the story was amazing. I read it quite by coincidence. It was left anonymously in my #LittleFreeLibrary and looked interesting. So glad it fell into my hands!! @Swe_Eva Read this book! (edited) 6y
iporto @SqueakyChu yes! It is such a beautiful book (in that sad manner). I really loved it 6y
Swe_Eva @iporto @SqueakyChu I‘ve never even heard of it. On the wishlist it goes! 6y
SqueakyChu @Swe_Eva Haha! You won‘t be sorry. It‘s a very moving story. 6y
