The Belting Inheritance
The Belting Inheritance | Julian Symons
1 post | 1 read
When a stranger arrives at Belting, he is met with a very mixed reception by the occupants of the old house. Claiming his so-called ‘rightful inheritance’ the stranger makes plans to take up residence at once. Such a thing was bound to cause problems amongst the family – but why were so many of them turning up dead?

Panpan

It would have been a pick, it is a nicely written silver age British mystery. But a minor black character gets treated appalling. It's a small part of the book but I read it 3 days ago and it is still making me feel sick. I don't feel Symons is pushing a racist agenda. He is simply observing how black men were treated in 50s Britain, which I think is important we remember. Nevertheless I have to pan it.
