But this town isn’t good at keeping secrets… Twelve years later, Robyn returns home, to a house that has stood empty for years and a town that hasn’t moved on, forced to confront the mystery that haunted her that summer. Call me a grumpy old grouchbag but boy am I getting fed up of the dual timeline format! This one was particularly annoying as both strands were obfuscated rather than having one hook you with hints & clues while the other has the gradual juicy reveals. Just couldn't get a handle on what was going on til right at the end so felt little sympathy for the characters. The 2 MCs were unconvincing as well, their motivations vague & behaviour random.

TheAromaofBooks I don't mind the dual timeline as long as I can see a connection between the two. When it feels like two completely separate, equally boring stories, it's kind of pointless! 4y

Amie I'm tired of dual timelines, too. I love historical fiction, but its seems like almost every historical fiction book has to have a dual timeline now and it's kind of annoying. I've enjoyed some books with a dual timeline, but it's not always done well and it's not always necessary to the story. 4y

"No, Little Bird , never , never give into a bully. You never give in because they won‘t stop, and they won‘t just go away, and they won‘t change , and, before you know it," she stops herself and takes a big breath, "well, it gets worse." ... Mum told me we shouldn‘t keep secrets from each other. Then she kept the biggest one of all.
