The Hidden Bones
The Hidden Bones | Nicola Ford
4 posts | 2 read
The dead rarely leave matters tidy, widow Clare Hills knows that all too well. In search of a new start, Clare reconnects with university friend Dr David Barbrook and is pleased when he asks for her help sifting through the effects of recently deceased archaeologist Gerald Hart. Together they stumble the lost finds from Gerald’s most glittering dig. Hidden from view for decades, and supposedly destroyed in an arson attack, the discovery of the Hungerbourne Barrows archive is every archaeologist’s dream. However, the dream soon turns to a nightmare which puts Clare at the centre of a murder inquiry.

Finished this last night - although ‘this morning‘ might be more accurate 😄. Pretty solid murder mystery. Bit predictable at times, but honestly, sometimes I want that in a book. Wish I‘d been able to go to the author event last month, but hey-ho.

Went to an open day at the local archives today. Such beautiful lettering in this record from the 1600s. (Now for a cup of tea before I start my reading for the day).

Time to start on this one. I really wanted to go to the author‘s talk for the #crossingthetees book festival a couple of weeks ago, but relying on public transport meant it just wasn‘t doable. Maybe in the future.

Mehso-so

It was good, but a bit slow to get started. I guess the author was trying to get all the background information in before bringing in the mystery. I enjoyed the characters and, as this is meant to be the first in a series featuring Claire, I‘m interested in continuing.
