Shadowlands: The True Story of C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman | Brian Sibley
3 posts | 3 read | 7 to read
Shadowlands tells the unique story of his tragic love. In Joy Davidman he truly found love and was drawn out of his shell. But only briefly, as she died months after they married. Brian Sibley skilfully looks at Lewis's childhood, his literary legacy and shows how, in the end, despite grief and painful doubts, Lewis's faith shone through. Shadowlands is also a BAFTA winning BBC film, a stage play by William Nicholson and a feature film directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger. This new edition is fully expanded and updated.

Very readable and about way more than the relationship. A good introduction to two talented individuals with very passionate personalities and way, way better than the film - which at one point has Lewis driving a car, for heaven‘s sake. Goes well with Lewis‘s A Grief Observed too: a brutal, beautiful and searingly honest examination of the phenomenology of grief from a master psychologist with an all-too-clear mind.
