Hold Me Like a Breath
Hold Me Like a Breath: Once Upon a Crime Family | Tiffany Schmidt
11 posts | 9 read | 15 to read
In Penelope Landlow's world, almost anything can be bought or sold. She's the daughter of one of the three crime families controlling the black market for organ transplants. Because of an autoimmune disorder that causes her to bruise easily, Penny is considered too "delicate" to handle the family business, or even to step foot outside their estate. All Penelope has ever wanted is independence--until she's suddenly thrust into the dangerous world all alone, forced to stay one step ahead of her family's enemies. As she struggles to survive the power plays of rival crime families, she learns dreams come with casualties, betrayal hurts worse than bruises, and there's nothing she won't risk for the people she loves. Perfect for fans of Holly Black and Kimberly Derting, this first book in the stunning new Once Upon a Crime Family series from acclaimed author Tiffany Schmidt will leave readers breathless.

I throughly enjoyed this one. A great mix of suspense, drama, and romance! A fun find in my school‘s library!

OH MY GOODNESS. I have so many feels about this book! Like, part of me is so intrigued by a ton of the things (crime family, blood disorder the MC has, mafiaesque, the characters in general) but One Thing kind of killed it for me (hint: #romance). I still enjoyed it and finished in 2 sittings but it had some potential to be much better

I'll be posting a full review on my blog: www.crimson613.wordpress.com and Goodreads bc word count

I bought the first one last year, and it's just been sitting in my stacks, waiting to be read. I saw the second at the library yesterday, so I figured it was a good time and incentive to pick it up and tackle the first one, too. (And look at those covers! 😍) #tiffanyschmidt #onceuponacrimefamily

I usually don't read young adult books but decided to take a chance on this one. It was decent. Not the typical YA book. Loved the subject matter of organ transplant which is unique. The author did a good job of adding crime, mystery, suspense and romance all into one. I can't say I loved it or hated it but I know won't be reading the second one in the series.

Just finished this one and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised because this turned out to be a pretty good read!

I would love to curl up with my current read instead of reading a bit here and there. My friend that recommended it to me said it was a twist on the Princess & the Pea, and twist it is! Crime family that deals in human organs?! I have enjoyed all I have read so far! But it is now time for work. At least the book will be waiting for me after my shift!!

Well that was okay. The good: the thriller/suspense plot moved at an excellent, edge-of-your-seat kind of pace. The bad: Somehow, SOMEHOW, the author manages to include an insta!love subplot and only JUST shies away from a full-blown, sappy love triangle. Good story, but nothing stellar. ★★★☆☆.

CURRENTLY READING | Despite the melodramatic title, this is actually about a a girl who comes from a crime Family that deals in illegal organ trading? (And may or may not be a retelling of The Princess and the Pea?)

I frequently visit the local book store near my parents. For the month of May they have been doing this! The first line of this one is cut off : retelling of the Princess & the Pea!
The other surprise title today was Falling Kingdoms by Rhodes.

I had the privilege of working for 2 days at the scholastic book warehouse sale this week. They pay you for your time in books. You just have to set everything up like a book fair and help people find books. Easy peasy. This is my haul for 7 hours.😃
