WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY MARTIN EDWARDS Ted Lyte, amateur thief, has chosen an isolated house by the coast for his first robbery. But Haven House is no ordinary country home. While hunting for silverware to steal, Ted stumbles upon a locked room containing seven dead bodies. Detective Inspector Kendall takes on the case with the help of passing yachtsman Thomas Hazeldean. The search for the house's absent owners brings Hazeldean across the Channel to Boulogne, where he finds more than one motive to stay and investigate. Seven Dead is an atmospheric crime novel first published in 1939.

Oh this is fun. A classic locked room Murder mystery wit plenty of twists and turns. The solution is a trifle far-fetched, but I forgave it!

What an assortment of interesting characters! I believe that Kendall makes an appearance in another of Farjeon's books; I may search that one out in the future. This story is rather far fetched, so it requires plenty of suspension of disbelief, but it's very entertaining.

Morning plans: try to make progress on this book and drink my new blueberry tea while The Hubs works on his car. 📖🚙 (Ignore work in progress yard in the background of picture 🙄)
Graduation parties later and tomorrow. 🎓

ShyBookOwl Blueberry tea?! Yum! 5y

My progress has been slow on this. Today would have been a wonderful day to stay home and read. Alas! Must earn money. 😉

When my grandbaby is in residence I always try to read physical books, rather than on my kindle, as he's already way too fixated on playing on his parents' phones.😒 I want to reinforce the pleasures of reading and if he sees me with my kindle he assumes games rather than books.

So. Which of these shall I read this weekend?

paulfrankspencer That is an excellent policy. It's ridiculous to wonder why our children are addicted to screens. They mirror our habits and priorities. 5y
monalyisha What a pretty cover (or spine, at least) for the Wilde! And a pretty shelf! I‘m torn as to which to vote for...either the Wilde or the Cline. Also, A+ policy. I should spend less time on my phone in front of my rabbit-daughter. She‘s always trying to text, & she doesn‘t even have opposable thumbs. Her fur makes it extra-slippery, too. So much grief. It‘s a problem. 5y
gradcat The book you tagged sounds like a fun read—especially if you are babysitting at the same time! 5y

gradcat @monalyisha How is that lovely bunny? 🐰 I haven‘t seen any pictures lately... 5y
monalyisha @gradcat She‘s great! This morning she trailed hay all over our bedroom. 😅 You know, the usual. I‘ll have to post some pics soon. 5y
bookandbedandtea @paulfrankspencer Exactly! While our screens are a wonderful tool in moderation they are definitely problematic. 5y
bookandbedandtea @monalyisha You definitely have to think about the example you're setting for your little bun! 🐇 Thanks for weighing in on my choices. 😊 5y
bookandbedandtea @gradcat It does sound fun! I think I'm leaning towards that one. 5y

Wow, that's one heck of a premise. I'm not 100% sold on the style -- sometimes the exchanges seemed to be good banter for the sake of banter, and really I'm not sure it's intended primarily as a mystery at all. I had fun, though.
