@Notafraidofwords Got this after hearing you talk about it. Today I was telling my husband about going on a field trip while in school to the jail to “scare us straight.” When I asked him if he ever did that, he said sadly, “No - I think they all assumed we‘d end up in Sing Sing - no field trip was necessary.” And it punctuated what it meant for him to grow up Dominican and marginalized in the Bronx.
