On Fat Tuesday we Poles do it different.

shawnmooney I don't think I knew you were Polish – you probably saw I recently finished reading a Polish novel in translation that I really enjoy – have you read it? (edited) 7y
quirkyreader @shawnmooney My great grand mother came from Poland and she was a very gutsy lady. One of the best stories about her was during the American prohibition she sold bathtub gin and had a mini speakeasy in her home. The rest of my family comes from Russia, the British Isles, and the Mediterranean. Just about everyone came over during the early 20th century. I am proud to come from immigrants who made life in the states more exciting. (edited) 7y
lynneamch Love your grandma story. My Ukrainian gramma called them pushky. I'm partial to raspberry. This from Smitten Kitchen ". . . in Russia, ponchiki, in Ukraine, pampushky, in Italy, bombolini (swoon), in Finland, munkki (although not all of these varieties are always filled with jam)" I recently stacked Mercury on your rec @shawnmooney ? 7y

quirkyreader @lynneamch I used to make them when I worked in a bakery in Michigan. But I have noticed in Indiana they make them strange. I am more partial to the cream based fillings. 7y
lynneamch Where in Mich? Marios in Clinton Twp had the best custard filled. ☺Sadly gone. 7y
quirkyreader @lynneamch It was Roma bakery in Lansing. I don't know if you are familiar with the Quality Diary chain or QD as it was referred to, they still make good authentic ones. 7y
