Just when you get out... Former Chicago cop Jack Daniels thought she'd left her former life behind. She'd traded her badge for a toddler, and her lifelong pursuit of heinous serial killers for a boring house in the suburbs. ...they pull you back in. Then Jack sees some pictures. Pictures of men who were supposed to be dead. And once again, against the fierce insistence of her husband, Phineas Troutt, Jack reluctantly straps on her gun and goes hunting. Hunting for the worst of the worst. This leads to a trek across the Great Plains, searching for a modern slavery ring, on a collision course with three of the most horrible villains Jack has ever faced. But Jack, and her irritating buddy Harry McGlade, will face them, and much more. Because they're prepared to go to hell and back to rescue an old friend. The trick will be getting back in one piece. And--spoiler alert--they don't. WHITE RUSSIAN by J.A. Konrath What are you willing to lose?

Mehso-so

Finished it; it redeemed itself a little bit by the end, but it was still FAR from the best of the series. The villains remained irritating. McGlade was still ridiculous in a not-good way. Also, there were a TON of typos, which annoyed me to high heaven. But onto the next three, when they get here through Interlibrary Loan. (The drink that inspired the title sounds amazing on this freezing day though…) #whiterussian #jakonrath #jackdaniels

Every time the villains get a chapter it sounds like this, and it‘s getting really, really old. I get the theory behind it, but it‘s grating, and honestly, not as effective as I think it wants to be. #whiterussian #jakonrath #jackdaniels

This one is…not nearly as good as the rest have been. I‘m hoping it either gets better by the end, or that the next one bounces back, because I‘ll be sad if I‘ve invested this much time in this series only to have it end up being disappointing. The villains are ridiculous, and Harry McGlade is QUICKLY becoming a caricature of himself - it was fun when he was entertaining and ridiculous. Now he‘s just getting stupid. #whiterussian #jakonrath

Think about this for moment

JoRead I've heard about this before and it makes total sense. 6y
JoeStalksBeck @JoRead it makes total sense to me too! 6y
FantasyChick I've always believed this to be true. Every time I had a baby, I swore it was the worst pain of my life and I would never do it again....I've had 3 children naturally, lol. I remember the screaming, the crying....the begging...but not the pain 😂 6y
tournevis There is pain, and then there is birth pain, and those are different things in the brain. We remember pain. Women who give birth vaginally go through specific trigger responses to make the trauma bearable, which is an entirely diferent mechanism than, for example, getting hit by a car. 6y
i.z.booknook My sister is a midwife and I‘ve heard her talking before about women forgetting the pain and having more 😂😂😂 6y

I‘m so excited that Last Call wasn‘t the end! I‘m so excited to start this book. It‘s the 7th!

gossamerchild Whoa. This is awesome 😲 6y
rajithr Which of the Jack Daniels' did you like the best? Amazon reviews suggest Rum Runner. Wondering which one would be good to get into the series.. 🤔 6y
JoeStalksBeck @rajithr it‘s a series so you would have to start at the beginning. Well, it‘s best to start there because of the storyline. I think between him and Crouch there are like 15-20 books that are all in this series and connect 6y
JoeStalksBeck @gossamerchild this has Ben by far the best series I‘ve ever read. It‘s gruesome and not for everyone but the storyline is absolutely brilliant 6y
gossamerchild @JoeStalksBeck yeah, I had to stop reading them for a while, but they're really good. I need to pick them back up. 6y
