There has been a murder, but not only is the identity of the victim unknown, most of the body itself is missing. All thats been found is a pair of feet, stored in a portable cooler, and left in the house of a Federal judge in El Paso, Texas. The killer apparently broke into the judges house, left his grizzly message, and disappeared without a trace. With no clues as to the killer, the person killed, or the intent behind the cooler, all the authorities really know is that this likely isnt the killers firstor his lastvictim. The second book in Kope‘s series featuring Magnus “Steps” Craig is engaging from the very start! Though it‘s been four years since reading the first installment, Kope includes enough reminders and refreshers that I never once regretted not re-reading the first one. With humor, a special talent that allows him to see the auras as unique patterns & colors of each person to solve crimes, this serial killer thriller is both unique & exciting!

I often wonder what happened to the polite society that was once America.

This is Kope‘s 2nd book about “Steps” Craig, an FBI tracker with a unique ability to hunt killers. Whispers of the Dead is more a procedural work than an action thriller. The main character and his partner, as well as the rest of the characters, are well-defined and likable. What‘s great is that there is depth to the killer in this work. (S)he is not a one-dimensional, evil person. This book has heart.

The main character, Magnus “Steps” Craig, uses his synesthesia to help solve crime. Being able to see what a person touched in a specific color comes in handy for his job in the FBI. However, I found all of the characters and dialogue extremely annoying and unfortunately couldn't get past those to finish the book.
