Faith
Faith: A Journey For All | Jimmy Carter
5 posts | 4 read | 1 reading | 1 to read
In this powerful reflection, President Jimmy Carter contemplates how faith has sustained him in happiness and disappointment. He considers how we may find it in our own lives. All his life, President Jimmy Carter has been a courageous exemplar of faith. Now he shares the lessons he learned. He writes, The issue of faith arises in almost every area of human existence, so it is important to understand its multiple meanings. In this book, my primary goal is to explore the broader meaning of faith, its far-reaching effect on our lives, and its relationship to past, present, and future events in America and around the world. The religious aspects of faith are also covered, since this is how the word is most often used, and I have included a description of the ways my faith has guided and sustained me, as well as how it has challenged and driven me to seek a closer and better relationship with people and with God. As President Carter examines faiths many meanings, he describes how to accept it, live it, how to doubt and find faith again. A serious and moving reflection from one of Americas most admired and respected citizens.

What do you #Believe? There seems to be #infinite ways to answer that question! I #wish to learn more about the thoughts of different believers. The more I know, the more I can understand differences. That's the joy of reading. (I'm traveling for the next few days so here's one post for three #literaryluck prompts! Days 28, 29, and 30)

First book of thee year! I really enjoyed this one and am in awe of Carter‘s honesty and humility. I‘m glad my first book was optimistic to help put me in the right mindset for the year.

MallenNC I love Jimmy Carter. I had the honor to see him teach Sunday school in Plains, Ga., a few years ago. I have this one on my TBR. 10mo

Carter has always struck me as one whose actions and beliefs align. In this book, he explores the various definitions of faith - religious faith, faith in mankind, faith in our country's ideals. He looks at how faith has influenced his decisions and actions personally, professionally, and politically. It was an engaging read and a good reminder that those in the current political sphere aren't the defining voice for people of faith.
