Rabindranath Tagore Selected Short Stories
Rabindranath Tagore Selected Short Stories | Rabindranath Tagore
5 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
Poet, novelist, painter and musician, Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) is the grand master of Bengali culture. Written during the 1890s, the stories in this selection brilliantly recreate vivid images of Bengali life and landscapes in their depiction of peasantry and gentry, casteism, corrupt officialdom and dehumanizing poverty. Yet Tagore is first and foremost India's supreme Romantic poet, and in these stories he can be seen reaching beyond mere documentary realism towards his own profoundly original vision. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

Wow the book This is a wonderful book I have read. In this, King's love for his subjects is very commendable. Then the male sacrifice attracts attention. A priest who, due to false superstition, confuses his own subjects. This is a wonderful story. The cutest face is that of 5 year old Dhruv. Whom the king loves more than his life. And many more things that I liked. Overall, there is a life in the story.

Ravindranath Tagore's stories...i am even big fan of Ravindra Sangit( Ravindra Music) though i don't understand language music is capable of bonding i think any corner of world together like a Rainbow with variety of colours...Diversity sometimes makes you fully understand that in whole litte world we all are same still not robotic

It is must read book but with guaranteed hangover of books like we all have mostly

What do you all think? I usually have a front runner, but I would be happy with any of these. #lmpbc #groupq

JenlovesJT47 I‘ve read A Christmas Memory and The Body. Both great books! I‘m good with whatever. 5y
shadowspeak17 I think The Body and The Gift of the Magi would be my top two, but I‘m good with any of these. 5y

I am SO pissed that it took this Non-Western Civ Lit class to find Tagore. I love, love, LOVE this book! I can‘t even describe it, but it‘s made me gobble up the short story genre!

AshleyHoss820 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa YES! Please do! They‘re such good stories! I‘m so glad I took this course! 5y
Liz_M Have you read his 1001list book? I liked the writing, but maybe not the form. I guess I should try his short stories. 5y
AshleyHoss820 @Liz_M Oh my gosh, I didn‘t even know he was ON The List!! 😱 I really loved his short stories, but I haven‘t read the one you tagged! I wonder if it will be like Steinbeck? I adore his novellas but I slogged through The Grapes of Wrath. 😕🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
