Promise Given: A Henrietta and Inspector Howard Novel
Promise Given: A Henrietta and Inspector Howard Novel | Michelle Cox

This third book in the Henrietta and Inspector Howard series provides a delightful romp through the English countryside and back. Anxious to be married, Henrietta and Clive push forward with their wedding plans despite their family differences, made worse now by Oldrich Exley's attempts to control the Von Harmons. When the long-awaited wedding day arrives, there is more unfolding than just Clive and Henrietta's vows of love. Stanley and Elsie's relationship is sorely tested by the presence of the dashing Lieutenant Harrison Barnes-Smith and by Henrietta's friend Rose--a situation that grows increasingly dark and confused as time goes on. As Clive and Henrietta begin their honeymoon at Castle Linley, the Howards' ancestral estate in England, they encounter a whole new host of characters, including the eccentric Lord and Lady Linley and Clive's mysterious cousin, Wallace. When a man is murdered in the village on the night of a house party at the Castle, Wallace comes under suspicion--and Clive and Henrietta are reluctantly drawn into the case, despite Clive's anxiety at involving his new bride and Henrietta's distracting news from home. Delicately attempting to work together for the first time, Clive and Henrietta set out to prove Wallace's innocence, uncovering as they do so some rather shocking truths that will shake the Linley name and estate forever.

l should say first of all that l'm probably not the best reader for this book. This series started out as a mix of mystery and romance, and though l'm not a romance reader at all, l enjoyed the mystery part.
I enjoyed it this time too, there was just too little of it. Half of the book was about the main characters' wedding and really... l'm not one to care for 200 pages of wedding.
But it's well written, the characters are nice.
Just not for me.

This is my current read- new genre, mystery this time. Barely started so can‘t give any real comments yet.

This is my roundup of May. But of a mixed bag. I loved House on Half Moon Street, such an awesome debut. Loved loved loved Tolkien and his poems.
I bailed on The Oceon Liner, though, and l'm considering bailing on Scales too. It's a short novella, l'm halfway through, but seriously, what is the story about?

Actually finished yesterday night. Can't say l loved it. The first half was really too rimancy for me. The second half was a lot better, with the mystery and the characters' development. I still think it was a bit contrived as 'one more' novel in the series.

Last day of the #NetGalleyTBRAttack and l can't say it went very well. I'm only halfway through the only book l've read 😓
Hadn't particularly liked it so far either, which is why l didn't even finish it.
Let's see whether the second part is a bit better

Miznanner I ❤️ your e-reader cover! Do you mind telling me where you found it? (edited) 6y

How's everyone faring with their #NetGalleyTBRAttack?
I'll have to admit, not very well. At 30% this is so boring, and l'd have already bailed if they hadn't promised there is a murder. I'll get at least that far and see what happens

Clwojick Hahahah! Murder is always a seller for me 😉 6y
Clwojick I‘ve been “cheating” by doing all my easier reads first. Lists of graphic novels and children‘s books for me these past few days. But I‘m currently reading The Favourite Sister and not (totally) loving it so far. I‘m hoping it picks up soon. 6y

I'm at 18% of this for the #NetGalleyTBRAttack and honestly yesterday night l started skipping.
The second book in the series (which l also red fron Netgalley) was also mystery structured like a romance and l still liked it.
But here l've only heard of weddings and first night so far, discussed at dinner and tea afternoon.
Not my thing... but there should be a murder later on
