The Grandmother's Tale
The Grandmother's Tale: Three Novellas | R. K. Narayan
3 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
Three novellas - one of a grandmother, one of an old miser, and one of a childless couple - Narayan returns the reader to a world of small-town India, with its wry humour, its small betrayals, and its moments of great poignancy.

Pickpick

Just finished reading it...
It was a quick read. I thought it thoroughly shows us the emotional journey of Bala the protagonist who was married at the age of seven!!! and whose groom ran away after a few months... Overall it was a nice story

The anniversary of my grandma‘s passing is coming up (Valentine‘s Day). To honor her memory, I plan to indulge in some of her favorite things. So, what‘s the best, steamiest romance book you‘ve ever read & why? (Bonus points if it won‘t offend my feminist sensibilities). Also accepting: recs for classic Western films.

Please note: I‘ll be consuming the above along with copious amounts of beer & Hershey‘s Kisses. It‘s what she would‘ve wanted. 😉

ReadingEnvy I read this when I was just becoming a teen, in a house my family rented for vacation. It's like vintage steamyat this point 6y

benchley1 Can't go wrong the Loretta Chase or Sarah MacLean. Strong female leads, awesome sex scenes and swoony men. I love her number ones 6y

MeganAnn I love Nora Roberts' bridal quartet and her boonsboro inn trilogy. I reread those when I'm looking for a good romance. I also love The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks and Truth or Beard by Penny Reid. If you like a little fantasy in there the Nocturne Falls series by Kristen Painter is great. Growing up I read bunch of my mom's Virginia Holt and Phyllis A Whitney books if you want old school romance 6y
monalyisha @benchley1 that sounds like it could be perfect! 🙌🏻 6y
benchley1 @monalyisha I had actually gone a few years without reading a romance, the I'm I found the blog Smart Bitches, trashy books and Sarah and madeline hunter, and haven't looked back. 6y
Erika13137 Anything by Alice Clayton. The perfect amount of sexy and funny. For example, the last three books in her Hudson Valley series was Nuts, Cream and Buns 😊 6y
LeahBergen Classic western film : The Outlaw Josey Wales. 👍🏻 6y

My first pick for a R K Narayan read along.. A novella but I'll be able to see, smell, taste, hear and feel south India in every page. In every line. Illustrations by R K Laxman in this edition just adds to the nostalgia.
