Mehso-so

Ildakar was a nasty place but wasn‘t that surprising. How can a place that has been closed off from the world not descend into chaos at the hands of rulers who believe in class superiority?! Not very shocking. I missed Nicci being Nicci, she was virtually a meek little lamb throughout the story. I wanted her to be the fierce warrior I saw in Death‘s Mistress! …. Terry Goodkind has decided to be an ass & publicly attack the art for this book. He didn‘t go to his publisher, who commissioned the art. Instead, he posted a poll online & openly mocked the work. He‘s given a half-assed apology but he‘s now off my radar because of his unprofessional behavior. Fortunately, the artist is established so his career won‘t be ruined. All over a cover that is appealing.

jpmcwisemorgan For the record, authors don‘t usually get to pick their covers. I know of one instance a new author got to but it‘s because the publisher didn‘t know much about the genre. And now, because it‘s happened before, that author gets more say in their covers. Not complete say, just some. 6y
Dulcinella Geez.. that kind of thing is between publisher and author:-( 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @Dulcinella One would think that. From what I understand he feels the art doesn‘t actually represent the content of the book but that‘s not what was said, or how it came out. Covers not representing content is a different issue and if he‘d presented his position differently, then this wouldn‘t be happening. 6y

2BR02B He also seems kind of sexist. I hadn't planned on reading him before, but now I have even more reason not to. 6y
ReadingSusan So unprofessional. 6y
tjwill 😡 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @2BR02B That‘s what I‘m getting out of the larger discussion. That, and it seems like this didn‘t surprise people much so I think he‘s just generally a jerk. @ReadingSusan @tjwill My sentiments too! 6y
parasolofdoom This was all over several fantasy groups on Facebook and everyone was pretty universally disgusted but unsurprised by his behavior. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @parasolofdoom I saw it first on FB and then it started popping up on Twitter. I saw one thread try to argue what Goodkind actually meant and how his fans would understand what he was trying to say but I saw a lot of his fans disgusted by his behavior. I gathered that to people in the know, such as other authors, this was pretty much unexpected. 6y
parasolofdoom Also... He's a successful author so phrasing shit clearly should not have been so hard 🙄 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @parasolofdoom Yes! And he‘s not a new author who might not be comfortable figuring this sort of thing out. 6y

Pickpick

Although a bit campy in some places this was a great book. I love all the new adventures and hope there are more to come.

Been a bit quiet lately. Feeling stretched a bit thin where the boys are concerned. Might be quiet for the next week or so while I do a mental clean out. Overwhelmed doesn't cut it. 😩
Hope everyone is doing well, here are some pretty covers for you all.
