A Rock Is Lively
A Rock Is Lively | Dianna Hutts Aston
6 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
From the award-winning creators of An Egg Is Quiet, A Seed Is Sleepy, and A Butterfly Is Patient comes a gorgeous and informative introduction to the fascinating world of rocks. From dazzling blue lapis lazuli to volcanic snowflake obsidian, an incredible variety of rocks are showcased in all their splendor. Poetic in voice and elegant in design, this book introduces an array of facts, making it equally perfect for classroom sharing and family reading. Plus, this is the fixed format version, which looks almost identical to the print edition.

I truly enjoy that this nonfiction book is in a series of other nonfiction nature books.

I love the series of these books! The facts are extremely lyrical and easy to listen to and read for younger children. Rocks are very popular with children especially boys so this book could truly capture their attentions. I love the calm nature of this book as you read about the different types of rocks you can find all over the world.

I adore this series and a Rock is Lively is a solid and delightful addition to the cannon (even if I think my favourite is still A Seed is Sleepy). Part extraordinary art, part skillful and delightful prose and part science, they‘re an introduction to, in this case, geology. Highly recommended for kids of all ages or as a delight for adults interested in their various subject matters. 😊😊😊

The struggle with Kohinoor continues. Baring disaster it will be over tomorrow but having slogged through weakness, betrayal, caste politicking idiocy resulting in a brutal and bloody murder and theft from a child dressed up as an equitable treaty, I simply cannot be bothered pushing on tonight. I have jumped to a kids book instead, albeit one on rocks as well... appropriate? 😉😉😉

Such gorgeous watercolor illustrations and a nice mix of poetic and scientific in the text. Not captivating for the youngest picture book fans, but my 3rd grader enjoyed it and liked trying to say the names of all the different kinds of rocks at the end.
