“People always say that I didn't give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn't true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day.“

This NF book is perfect for a GR. As students enter black history month it is important that they learn about the woman who started it all. ESOL #42 can be used as students learn about other influential persons of black history. Also would be utilizing UDL 8.2 by increasing higher level thinking. provides examples of lessons and activities you as a teacher could utilize. #ucflae3414sp20

DrSpalding What can you tell me about her that you learned from the book? A bit too brief. Helpful resource from the publisher. 4y

On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks refused to obey bus driver James F. Blake's order to give up her seat in the "colored section" to a white passenger, after the whites-only section was filled.
62 years ago today.
Isn't it utterly shameful that not much has changed. We need to do better.

This is me in her seat on the actual bus in the actual spot. I cried. I can't tolerate hate..it guts me.

AmyG I'm with you. #kindness 6y

Betty @TheBookHippie my former boss (Middle School principal) told us of going through the same thing as a child with her mother in Knoxville, TN. Her mother refused to move while on a bus, Elaine was so scared. But they were not attacked nor arrested. 6y
