When Edan Kupferman dresses up like her favorite character, Gargantua, she feels tall and powerful. That's important right now, because her family is a mess, her best friend is gone for the summer, her crush is confusing, and Edan's feeling small and not sure which end is up. When Edan's cosplaying, she can be angry, loud, and not the good girl everyone thinks she is. And when she's at conventions, she feels like she's found her own Team Tomorrow. But when her personal life starts to spiral out of control, Edan has to figure out whether she needs a sidekick, or if she has the strength to be the hero of her own story.

I LOVED this book so much that I actually hugged it when I was done! This is one of those books that I wish existed when I was younger and first hitting nerdy scenes. It‘s a great story of first loves, discovering new interests, misogyny in geek culture, friendship, family, and the complicated feelings involved when you find out someone isn‘t the person you thought they were. 4/5 highly recommend (for middle grades readers, I believe?)

charminggoats (Note: the book is not without flaws. I read an uncorrected proof picked up at YALLFEST so this may not be 100% accurate, but it was simplistic - Topics seem typical of YA but language and story seemed more middle grades reader to me. I‘m not 100% sure of the intended audience. It‘s easy to figure out who the villains are and where the plot is going, but it‘s still an interesting story that I wish I had when I was a 12 year old budding geek.) 6y

So. Funny thing, I haven't actually read it. There was a book fair, and my friends found it and we talked about it nonstop, just from the ~beautiful~ title. I think I will read it though.
