The Production of Money
The Production of Money: How to Break the Power of Bankers | Ann Pettifor
4 posts | 3 read | 4 to read
What is money, where does it come from, and who controls it? In this accessible, brilliantly argued book, leading political economist Ann Pettifor explains in straightforward terms historys most misunderstood invention: the money system. Pettifor argues that democracies can, and indeed must, reclaim control over money production and restrain the out-of-control finance sector so that it serves the interests of society, as well as the needs of the ecosystem. The Production of Money examines and assesses popular alternative debates on, and innovations in, money, such as green QE and helicopter money. She sets out the possibility of linking the money in our pockets (or on our smartphones) to the improvements we want to see in the world around us.

Pettifor is doing a great job in explaining how our financial system currently works and how neoliberalism has created a mindset about money production that has nothing to do with possible realities. She is giving ideas on how society could overcome the current system.
From time to time a complex read, but very interesting.

My aversion to the capitalist world we live in is getting stronger from day to day, so I am really excited to read this book now.

I highly recommend this book! It is short and very readable and about a topic important to us all: money. More specifically it concerns monetary and fiscal policies. The author is an economist whose target audience includes women and environmentalists. It's a home run of a book for me and a must read for all feminists and progressives! 🐷💰⚖️
