“Amos had a lot to do at the zoo, but he always made time to visit his good friends.”
I love reading this book because it‘s silly and shows true friendship throughout the book. The kids always love it because it‘s unrealistic as far as the animals go but has true friendship.
A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Phillip C. Stead was published in 2010 and won The Caldecott Medal in 2011. This was a story about a zoo keeper who always made time to spend individual time with all his animals at the zoo. One day he got sick and couldn‘t make it to work. The next thing he knew the animals arrived at his house to take care of him out of the kindness of their hearts.
I enjoyed reading this story because it is a fun read with lots of meaning behind it. I would share this book with my students because there are lessons to be learned about friendship and kindness in the story.
A Sick Day for Amos McGee won the Caldecott Medal in 2011. This story is about a man who has animal friends that he takes care of everyday. The man, Amos, feels sick one day and does not make it to see the animals, so instead the animals come and take care of him. I thought the illustrations of the animals were realistic looking and gave a sense of reality to the story.
We love this one! It feels like a classic - the illustrations are soft and pleasant, and the story completely charming. A feel-good story of friendship between zookeeper, Amos, and the animals. When Amos isn‘t able to go and do his regular activities with his zoo friends, they come to him!
This is a cute book about Amos and his Zoo friends. I would probably use this book to talk about way that we can be kind and support to our friends, classmates, school, etc.
A Sick Day for Amos McGee is a 2011 Caldecott award winning book. This is a nice little story about Amos and his friend that he would visit every day at the zoo. One day Amos awakes with the sniffles and sneezes and decides to take a day off. However, he was dearly missed by his friends at the zoo so they had to do something about that.
This book is a great book to read to children who may be sick or if there is a sickness going around. In the book, it is talked about how because he was sick, the zookeeper couldn‘t go in, so I think that is a good message for if kids are sick they need to stay home and rest!
“Amos had a lot to do at the zoo, but he always made time to visit his good friends.“
I would use this in my classroom to share and talk about kindness. It is important to remember that small things can make the biggest impact on someone. I would have each student think about small, kind acts that they may do.
A Sick Day for Amos McGee was published in 2010 and received the Caldecott Medal in 2011. In this story, the author conveys the message about when you help others, there may come a time when they help you. The power of friendship is so important.
A Sick Day for Amos McGee is one of the cutest MF books that I've read! This book is about Amos's job at the zoo. When he's out sick one day, all of his animals come to visit him! This book would be great as a RA! It goes along with the UDL 3.2 (highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships) as well as EL 2 (promote cooperation). I think after reading aloud this book would be great to use in small groups! #ucflae3414sp21

Review: A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead, 2010, is a Caldecott Winner and is about a zookeeper who gets sick and can't visit his animal friends at the zoo. It has some great illustrations!
Blurb: I would use this book in my classroom as a read aloud, allowing the children to see the illustrations as well as ask questions about the animals and story.
Quote: “and at sunset, read stories to the owl.“
Amos had lots to do at the zoo, but he always made time to visit his good friends.
This Caldecott winner is one of a uniquie art style. The illistrator clevorly uses color to emphasize parts of he book. Much of the background has nice detail but is in black and white, what is important has color, and the colors each mean something.

“Amos McGee, a friendly zoo keeper, always made time to visit his good friends“
A really sweet book that teaches children kindness, empathy, and compassion. I love these kind of books you can bring into the classroom and have a discussion about what it is to be kind.
A sick day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead and Erin E. Stead was the Caldecott award winner in 2011. This is a heart warming and just really sweet story of a cute little old man that usually visits his friends at the zoo everyday and does what they like ,and on a day where Amos is sick all his zoo friends come over and does things he likes. I personally don't like the use of so much white on the page but the specific use of color was interesting
I would use this book in my classroom because it talks about how sad the animals are when Amos gets sick and can‘t come to work. In the classroom we can talk about how sad your classmates get when your sick and can‘t come to school.
“Sit quietly with the penguin (who was very shy),”
I would read this book to early elementary kids. This book is a great story for kids. It has a fun lighthearted story. The zoo animals are so grateful for Amos McGee. The book could be compared to a teacher with her students.
This book won a Caldecott medal. I really enjoyed reading this book because it through a mans day in his life. He would play with the animals at the zoo. He one day got sick which was very sad. Highly recommend this book.
“And goodnight to the owl, who knowing that Amos was afraid of the dark read a story aloud before turning off the light.”
This is one of my favorite books hands down. It is such a sweet and thoughtful read that teaches kids to help friends out when they need it and the favor will return back. The animals being the old mans friends is what made this story so cute. Would definitely read this to my future classroom.
I loved the part when Amos didn't show up to the zoo so the animals decided to give him the special visits he gives them every day. I also enjoyed the illustrations with no words of all of the animals leaving then getting on the bus
this might be my favorite book yet. I loved the dramatic and imaginative features of the book like how Amos plays games with the animals and also the comical part like that the owl is scared of the dark.
The illustrations were very simplistic and timeless, making this book very easy to read.
Loved this book! It was a very cute and touching to see the animals visit him when he‘s sick.
This was a good read, with lots of pictures, words, and repetition. Amos is the main character who works at the zoo. One day, he‘s sick and doesn‘t show up. His zoo friends, the animals, wonder where he is. So they give him a visit. This shows a lovely story of friendship and thoughtfulness. Simply being visited by friends made Amos feel better.
this is by far one of the cutest stories I‘ve read. I love the different animals incorporated at the zoo in the story too, from elephants to owls to penguins.
