Hi Littens!
Here is my library haul for this month. I got only slovenian translation. Already started reading Tram 83 by Fiston Mwanza Mujila. And I have mixed feelings about it. Will tell more when finish it.
Other three are Uprooted by Naomi Novik Chocolate by Joanne Harris and SLoLvenski klasiki 1 by Bostjan Gorenc Pizama
Do you borrow books from the library?

Beatlefan129 I like to check out books from the library, then I‘ll go out and buy the book if I really liked it 6mo

The tram: practical, ecological, fun. Centuries old. Why did most places get rid of them? #viewfrommywindow

Suet624 Yes, why? 3y
Izai.Amorim @Suet624 The excuse is always to make place for cars and improve traffic conditions , but more cars mean more traffic, right? 3y
Suet624 Right. Grrr... 3y

#literaryworldtrip Democratic Republic of Congo
A book like a jazz album, in which lines are repeated over and over again. Lucien is a professional writer fleeing the repression of the Back-Country. He finds his refuge in the City-State with his kind-of friend Requiem, who makes his money in all different (dubious) kind of ways. The centre of their life is Tram83, a night club close to the train tracks, where everyone comes together.

Just borrowed Tram 83 from the library. Something tells me it might be quite different from any other African books I've read... #somethingforsept #day2 #numberintitle #septphotochallenge

I didn't think it was such an amazing reading month, mostly because it came in fits and starts as opposed to flowing. But now that I have reviewed the month in retrospect, I am pleased. Thanks @24in48 for helping get me over the proverbially hump!

Alright- finished this book that I had been working through as my first across the finish line for @24in48 #readathon. I'm not sure if that counts, since I started it before the reason started, but I hate putting one type of reading aside for a Readathon. What do you all think? Does it count?

BookishFeminist It counts in my opinion! I have lots of half finished stuff on my stack I want to revisit/finish. 😊 3y
Sue Absolutely!! I'm knocking over some half finished stuff too. I figure it makes up for the days I can't concentrate and start three or four books 😂 3y

Highly unusual read, evoking the African sounds and vibes, very jazzy. But in the end lacking that something that would have made it a great book. The translation is excellent, though.

I had my first digital library book fail. While on vacation I was reading Tram 83, and loving it. But then the pages were skipping and I couldn't download and reload. Oh well- it was a sign from the book gods that I needed to get my own copy. Done!

BookishFeminist Aw that stinks! At least I've heard wonderful things about it so far so the money would be well spent :) 3y
HardcoverHearts @BookishFeminist -It was the first time it's ever happened to me. And I read A LOT of library digital material. 3y
BookishFeminist @HardcoverHearts yea I've never had it happen to me--do you use Overdrive? Hope it doesn't happen again! 3y

HardcoverHearts @BookishFeminist - Yes, it was Overdrive. I still think it's an amazing app so I will assume some glitch in the matrix or user error. 😉 3y
ReadingEnvy As a librarian who has to support obnoxious eBooks (haha tell you how I really feel) sometimes deleting and redownloading is all it takes. Sometimes it is the file itself. In academia we deal with ten different eBook platforms each with their own personalities. I long for a universal eBook format! 3y
HardcoverHearts @ReadingEnvy : That's great to know. I figured that was probably the case, but was in a spot with shoddy wifi and I force myself to not use my cell minutes on book downloads because I would be broke. Basically, it was a great excuse to purchase a book I will want to own, anyway. 😉 3y

It's officially time to do the Books on the Night Stand Summer Book Bingo! Check out their podcast- I have received so many book gems I would have never read without their reviews. They are bringing it to a close after doing it for so many years. Endless gratitude to @Annkingman @mkindness !

L_auren Yes!!! Have mine up too! 3y
HardcoverHearts @L_auren : I should have thanked you for the inspiration! I put it on Instagram but forgot to put it here, too. 📚📚📚 3y
Angelala007 I'm going to use this to get my TBR pile whittled down. Thank you 🙃 3y

Vibrant, sordid, and even a bit comical; the challenge in reading this novel is having to read it *in translation*. I would love to have a French copy on hand for certain passages that do not seem to come across as clean as I suspect they were in the original ms

At City Lights, there is what I call the "In Between Room": Between the well-stocked shelves of Western Lit and the staircase leading upstairs to the Poetry, there is a room of Asian, African, and Other Cultures. Imagine, most of the world fitting "in between!" That is where I found this...

I was pretty bleh about this book the first time around, but I just re-read it and loved it. Timing, I guess?

rylamar After I read it I wasn't sure what to think. I didn't hate it or love it but I also have had the urge to reread it. Aside from all the positive reviews something still makes me want to go back to it. 4y
