Little Wrecks
Little Wrecks | Meredith Miller
7 posts | 4 read | 1 reading | 9 to read
In this haunting and explosive debut, Meredith Miller explores the truth behind three girls on the cusp of adulthood, and all the shocking realizations that come under the guise of growing up. Perfect for fans of Ill Give You the Sun and Girl in Pieces. Ruth, Magda, and Isabel are different from everyone else. They can see beneath the seemingly perfect, cookie-cutter exterior of their small town of Highbone, Long Island. They know that below the surface, each house is filled with secrets, indifference, and violence. These girls refuse to become willing participants of these fake lives. Instead, they are determined to fight every condescending comment, every unwelcome touch, and every lie theyve been told. When the opportunity to commit the perfect crime appears, the girls finally start to see their way out of Highbone. But for the first time, Ruth, Magda, and Isabel are keeping secrets from each other. As they drift apart, the weight of reality starts to set in. These girls cant save each other. They might not even be able to save themselves. Darkly atmospheric and brutally honest, Little Wrecks depicts girls becoming women in a society that devalues both.Mindy McGinnis, author of Female of the Species

I am way too excited about my 5 minute corner bookmark. Next one won't be made with Dollar Tree craft tape though. It isn't sticky enough.

I keep flip flopping on books as of late because I can't seem to figure out my mood. I finally got my Arlington County library card and saw this book om the display. So right now I am curled up on my bed with my Chi Tea while my boyfriend and his friend play Dungeons and Dragons. It has been on my TBR for a while. I am mot usually a fan of YA but we will give this a shot.

Pickpick

This is what our reviewer had to say about #LittleWrecks by Meredith Miller "LITTLE WRECKS is a unique novel in that it is almost entirely abstract....I found this book to be a hard read but I would recommend it to readers who enjoy abstract works or novels with a dramatic flair."

If you were to combine, the sadness and plot twists of "Suicide Notes From Beautiful Girls" and the drama from "Pretty Little Liars" you would get this book. warning: incredibly deep & real but one of the best YA contemporary books I have ever read. This coming of age novel will leave you will a BIG book hangover.

"You get one life; it‘s full of things that taste and smell and make people feel. Your mission, obviously, is to taste and smell and feel as much of that as you can. Daydreaming should be a job. People should be paid to do it for the good of society."
