#ucflae32414f19 The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco is an award winning book (the 1988 Sydney Taylor Book Award) about diversity and culture. This book is relatable to students who may have a family culture that they practice within their home.

The lesson plan I found would fit best with this book is https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/keeping-quilt

Shannyblake The UDL Guideline I would use is Facilitate personal coping skills and strategies (9.2) and the ESOL strategy I would use is 24. Incorporate the culture and the language of second language learners in your curriculum.

DrSpalding This would make an excellent book to include in her author study. Her books are written partially autobiographically and certainly do incorporate her family culture. 4y

Here are my latest two Patricia Polacco picture books from the library. My son is still a bit young for these lengthy stories — I borrow these for myself and just love her work. The 2018 Picture Book Challenge has a bonus option to read all of an author or illustrator‘s backlist and I‘ve chosen this wonderful author who nearly always makes me cry. I‘ll admit, her art style isn‘t my #1 favorite, but these stories are just so touching and hopeful.

The Keeping Quilt is a RF picture book that was written and illustrated by Patricia Polacco and has a Sydney Taylor Award which is an award for Jewish children‘s literature. I would use this book to do a RA with my students. This book is about the past generations of Polacco‘s family and their traditions. This book relays the importance of custom and tradition in immigrant life and Jewish heritage. #UCFLAE3414F17

jasminep This website https://www.teachervision.com/keeping-quilt has a lot of resources and enrichment activities for this book. The UDL I would use is 3.2 which is highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships because the story has a lot of patters and relationships.
I would use ESOL strategy 14 because if the book was hard to follow for some students I could simplify my speech by making it slower and redundant.
