Before I Fall meets Inception in this time-bending YA mystery from the author of Nightingale, Sing. "My last thought before the black seas consume me is to wonder what morbid twist of fate allowed a prom, a proposal, an act of terrorism, and the deaths of everyone I know to converge on the same night." Renata Lake thought her relationship would be the only casualty of prom. Then the bomb went off. It was supposed to be a night to remember-a cruise through Boston Harbor, dancing beneath the stars. But when an explosion tears the ship apart, Renata wakes up in Patchwork, an ethereal world where all her memories have been stitched haphazardly together. In order to catch the assassin who murdered her friends, she'll have to navigate the twisted landscape of her mind and relive critical moments from her past in search of clues. Can she uncover the killer's identity and find her way back to the man she once loved before it's too late? Don't miss the twist ending of this dark, modern-day reimagining of the phoenix myth that will thrill fans of Passenger and A Thousand Pieces of You.

Mehso-so

Wish I could rate Patchwork better than "So-So," but it just seems to have one too many issues that hold it back from being a really great book. The Good: fast-paced like a thriller novel, a clever premise involving time travel allowing the main character to rewrite history. The Bad: teens who read more like college students, too many typos, and a dreadful love triangle. #Patchwork

‪Given the comparison on the back cover, the score to Inception seemed a perfect choice while reading Patchwork at the gym today. #Patchwork #KarstenKnight#readingmusic #music #soundtrack #Inception #HansZimmer

The biggest issue in Patchwork, for me, is the romantic triangle of Renata, Troy & Wyatt. I don't know that I could care less about that drama amid Renata's stalker terrorizing her and slaughtering people in spectacular fashion. It's not that it's unrealistic for Renata to care about it, but as a reader, I want to hit her head with a block of granite. In general, I find romantic triangles make any main character unlikeable. #RomanticTriangles

I'm about 70 pages into Patchwork, which is proving a very fast read. The story delivers some nice twists. I will admit that the teen voice doesn't always feel authentic to me, which was an issue in the first chapter. That becomes less of an issue with Renata focused on the task of stopping the deaths of her friends and classmates. Keeping on task also makes her a more sympathetic character. #KarstenKnight #fantasy #ya #yafantasy #Patchwork

Recently received Patchwork from a Goodreads giveaway, and just started it. I have to admit that the first chapter doesn't really hit it off well with me. The main character, Renata, is a hot mess. Karsten Knight also loads a ton of people into this first chapter. The back jacket comparison to Before I Fall suggests this opening chapter will repeat, and all these characters show up again, but it's still very top heavy. #Patchwork #KarstenKnight

Got my first ever Goodreads giveaway in the mail today, Patchwork by Karsten Knight. "Before I Fall meets Inception..." Um, yes. I'm definitely on board with that. #YA #timetravel #patchwork #karstenknight #fantasy #youngadult #giveaway

thegirlwiththebookishcandle Sounds good, how was it? 7y
BillBlume @thegirlwiththebookishcandle sadly, I've not read it yet. It's about to move up on my TBR list, though. Might have to take a break from my current read for something less dark (not a knock against what I'm reading. In this instance, it's just that I'm not in the right frame of mind for that book right now). 7y
thegirlwiththebookishcandle Ah ok, ill check it out anyway, thanks. Although something dark can also be good 7y
