Carter's heady first novel introduces one of her most enigmatic characters. Honeybuzzard spends his nights scavenging the contents of abandoned buildings and his days seducing and tormenting lovers, enemies, and friends. He and his best friend Morris scoour the backstreets of London, leaving behind a trail of detruction in the broken hearts and dashed hopes of those they love, manipulate, and ultimately discard.

Loved it!The characters are often weird or cruel but so interesting and well crafted you want to know more .Carters way with words make you want to read sentences again."Her clothes no longer seemed to have the energy to cover her properly." & "Over the way,the laundry digested its day's diet of dirty linen."It was her first novel,1966,Honeybuzzard gives me the willies ! More please!

batsy I can't believe I haven't read this yet! Your review is great, makes me want to chuck Rushdie aside and run to Angela (though she was a big fan of his work and probably will not be pleased). 7y
